In memory of Garry Hoyland
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce that Dr Garry Hoyland, Bluewater Bio’s long-serving Chairman of Technologies, passed away on 20th November 2020.
Garry brought an unrivalled wealth of experience to Bluewater Bio when, in 2007, he joined the nascent business as Technical Director (and employee no.3).
Under Garry’s technical stewardship, the flagship HYBACS® process was developed, going onto industry-wide acclaim and acceptance as a leading alternative to the industry standard Activated Sludge process. He was also instrumental in the development and optimisation of the company’s FilterClear® technology, which has subsequently become one of the most effective high-rate filtration technologies in the market.
Garry was an ardent contributor to the water industry, writing many professional papers on a range of subjects as diverse as reverse osmosis and sludge thickening and several international patents relating to wastewater and sludge treatment.
Not content on resting on his achievements, Garry brought a huge amount of enthusiasm and energy to his work, constantly striving for excellence and challenging the status quo. Garry was the embodiment of the company.
A man of principle and integrity, he will be greatly missed.
“It truly was an honour and a privilege to have worked with Garry. His enthusiasm and dedication to his work was inspiring and, without it, Bluewater Bio would not have grown and developed as we have” – Jeremy Biddle, Engineering Director
