Garry Hoyland Technical Director

Garry Hoyland

Dr Garry Hoyland obtained his MSc in chemical engineering at the University of Birmingham in 1968, where he also obtained his PhD three years later, followed by four years as a research fellow. Between 1975 and 1990 he was employed by the prestigious Water Research Centre in the UK. In 1990 he joined Mott Macdonald where he remained until joining the Group in 2007, at which time he served as a director of Mott MacDonald’s Wastewater and Pollution Control Division, managing a team of process and environmental engineers specialising in the field of pollution control and environmental protection. He has worked on a wide range of projects relating to wastewater and sludge in many different countries. He has also written several peer-reviewed papers.

Dr. Jeremy Biddle Senior Process Engineer

Dr. Jeremy Biddle

Dr Jeremy Biddle graduated with a degree in Biochemistry from Imperial College, London, in 1989 and completed his PhD at Cranfield University in 1995. He began his career in 1992 as a Process Engineer at Ashact Ltd, a small consultancy specialising in industrial and municipal wastewater treatment, working in the UK, Europe, Africa and the Far East. In 1998 he joined Southern Water as a Senior Process Engineer, later becoming a Technical Team Manager responsible for a multi-disciplinary engineering team working on major wastewater and sludge treatment schemes. After a 5-year spell as a freelance process consultant, working for clients such as MWH, Black & Veatch, Wessex Water and Pell Frischmann, he joined Bluewater Bio in 2010.

Dr. Caroline Xun Huo Principal Process Consultant

Dr. Caroline Xun Huo

Dr. Caroline Xun Huo obtained her first degree in Environmental Science and Engineering at Tsinghua University, Beijing and a PhD at Leeds University, UK. She has 16 years of experience in wastewater and biosolids treatment and water reuse, and has published several peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Huo has worked both as a process engineer and project manager for a number of water companies and consultancies in the UK and China, including Wessex Water, Anglian Water, MWH and China Global Chemical Engineering Company. She has extensive experience in process design & commissioning, technical & economical evaluations and project management. With in-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, she has influenced companies business investment plans via direct communications with the regulators and other stake holders. Her experience also extends to business development and client services, with a good understanding of managerial finance.

Robin Frood Principal Engineer

Robin Frood

After obtaining his BEng at the University of Hull in 1992, Robin began his career in the water industry with Wallace Evans and Partners, servicing the requirements of Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water in the fledgling privatised water industry. He then moved to the North East of England with Entec, spending the next three years heavily involved in Northumbrian Water’s prestigious and award winning Bran Sands project. He then took a role within Southern Water’s Technology Group, as Lead Engineer on several wastewater projects whilst also serving on a number of expert groups within the organisation. Following on from this he, as an independent consultant, moved firstly into the company’s Project Definition and then Project Delivery operations, ultimately assisting and advising framework contractors on both design and commissioning. Prior to Bluewater Bio, he was involved in the petrochemical field on the design of an overseas oil refinery. Robin joined Bluewater Bio in 2007 as Principal MEICA Engineer.

Dr. Liu Dongfang Senior Engineer in our Chinese office

Dr. Liu Dongfang

Professor of Environmental Science and Engineering College of Nankai University, China. Team leader of Nankai University and Blue water Co-operation Project Laboratory.

Dr. Liu Dongfang is an experienced professor, researcher and a principal Engineer. From 2000, he has been involved in many Wastewater treatment, sludge treatment and disposal projects in China, UK and other countries. He has 20 years’ research, feasibility study, design, construction, and commissioning experiences in the fields of wastewater treatment, water treatment, sludge treatment, odour control, noise control and environmental engineering fields. Dr. Liu Dongfang is an experienced management specialist and team leader for China, ADB, WORLD BANK and other organizations and environmental engineering research projects. He is fluent in both English and Chinese.
